About Our Farm
Ecological Farm
Rottenbiller Farms is a small 7 acre farm in Radnor (Wyandot territory), Ohio. It is difficult to describe what our specific goals are without using a bunch of buzz-words that farms very different from ours might use just as easily. Ultimately, we believe that agriculture as we know it, shares a significant burden when it comes to the ongoing climate crisis. And often well-meaning solutions to this inherent market failure, are seen as wholly good for the environment, when in fact, they are simply better than the worst thing ever for the environment. Labels are deceptive, and we're not interested in deceiving our customers. In short, all farmers are salesmen, and we're all going to tell you we do it the best way. But there is absolutely no denying that agriculture, as a whole is bad for the environment. Just look at the Salinas Valley, where they've completely eroded some of the finest soil on the planet with 5 decades of organic agriculture. Our goal is produce that is both good for you and the environment. Otherwise, we're just selling luxury. We aim to eliminate the need for externally sourced inputs through the tangible processes of self-sourced non-manure based compost, renewable energy, minimal waste, minimal plastic, extensive perennial production, and seed-saving. We never use GMOs, we never use any insecticides other than some garlic spray, or insecticidal soap on our peppers transplants, and we certainly never use herbicides of any kind, other than that one time we tried foolishly to kill some poison ivy with vinegar. In the end, we are growing and eating the exact same produce that we're selling to you, and we want the best, just like you.
